Missions

FIRE School of Ministry has a heart for the nations of the world, with over 190 grads serving as missionaries in more than twenty nations. FIRE seeks to instill a strong passion for missions and to equip those called to the mission field through several avenues. We provide specialized missions classes to equip students to serve overseas, and we offer short-term mission trips throughout the year to provide students with practical ministry experience on the foreign field. Additionally, during their third year, students have the opportunity to intern under seasoned FIRE missionaries, providing students a great opportunity to glean from experienced missionaries, to be immersed in life on the mission field on a deeper level, and to network with other leaders around the world.

FIRE School of Ministry offers the following courses to help equip students who feel called to serve in foreign missions:

  • World Missions—CW115 (1 credit) – A practical and theological study of the believer’s calling to reach the nations with the Gospel of Jesus, including a historical overview of missions and an analysis of contemporary need.
  • Cross-Cultural Communication—PM209 (2 credits) – This eye-opening course will teach concepts and methods necessary to proclaim Christ clearly in different cultures.
  • Missionary Life—PM210 (2 credits) – This course is designed to give the serious missions student a look at the call to foreign missions, while imparting information as to where the greatest needs are in today’s world. Practical instruction will be offered regarding fundraising, creating newsletters, and adjusting to culture shock in family relationships and in spiritual life. Other topics include financial management, health care, attitudes toward the sending agency and pastoral care.
  • Missionary Methods—PM211 (2 credits) – A study of Scripture related to the purposes, nature, scope and challenge of world missions. This course includes how to plant an indigenous church using different methods, such as evangelistic meetings, outdoor crusades, church growth, cell church, servant evangelism, and how to reach the unreached, with an emphasis on Muslims.
  • Missions Survival—PM238 (2 credits) – A comprehensive introduction to medical care, especially useful for those called to the mission field. Students will be equipped with methods and skills used by medical professionals. Other areas of study will include instruction on how to change the long-term health of a people group by the power of the Holy Spirit and how to use health promotion and disease prevention as tools for evangelism.
